Anet Abnous is a Los Angeles-based Armenian American artist whose vision is instituted on feminine beauty and empowerment. With female figures as her muse, she creates breathtaking and abstract imagery symbolizing women’s liberation and rights.

Anet’s passion for arts started early in life and was nurtured and inspired by her father’s dressmaking and tailoring skills. She enrolled in sewing and pattern making classes at the age 16 and later earned a Fine Arts Degree from Queens College- CUNY.

Anet’s creations are deeply compelling and culturally diverse. Her ethnic and cultural designs contrast the vibrant colors and impeccable details of traditional costumes and styles intertwined with subdued darker shades to divulge an art of striking beauty. Her paintings are displayed in several private collections and have showcased in galleries in New York, Rhode Island, California and Korea. Her creations and story have published in magazines and news such as Asbury Park, Burbank Leader, NY Art Magazine and others to name a few.

An ardent supporter of women-centered causes, Anet co-curated Manhattan’s first Armenian female art exhibition in 2007, bringing together talented artists from Armenia, Syria and U.S. She has also exhibited in various galleries with the mission of ending violence against women.

Anet’s Collection is “Wearable, Tangible Art” which is the culmination of Anet’s dream to merge fine art, fashion and storytelling through stylish tees, fashionable scarves, unisex accessories complemented by her personal note cards imprinted with her work.

Our readers would love to get to know you more Anet. Tell us about yourself, what is unique about you, your brand or the services you offer?

I am a passionate artist with a fascinating background. Any piece of art or wearable art I create has some kind of connection cultural or emotionally. All the pieces are meaningful and have some stories behind. They are unique pieces for people who. Appreciate art and love one of a kind pieces.

Anet, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Fashion Label?

I started as a fine artist and sold many pieces in Galleries internationally. I have been raised in a family that has always been involved in fashion. The only way of connecting my work and love of fashion was to create a label using my art. I am very connected to my feeling and my culture. I create pieces that talk with my art and not necessarily following what the colour trend for this season fashion is. My feelings, my inspiration is all about female beauty and me as a female artist how I see life. How I connect to nature or any other human being. Feminine beauty.

Who is your inspiration in life Anet? How do you stay inspired as Fashion Label?

My inspiration in my life is my two beautiful kids and people I meet on my journey. I learn a lesson from each relationship and experience, and as a very passionate person, each experience of my life puts a mark on each piece I design. Since most of my pieces have a story behind, some show an event in life, some a tradition and some love and even broken heart. Life in itself is one of the biggest inspiration for me and equally travelling. Every time I travel and learn more about a different culture and people, I see a direct influence and a way of connecting to more people through my collection, my wearable art.

We all make mistakes Anet; we wish we could take back. What was the mistake you made in the past that you wish you can take back?
Not pursuing my fashion career earlier until I was passed 40. Not taking risks.

Anet, How do you describe yourself regarding working with clients?

I am a people person. I have no fear of meeting new people and starting a conversation. When I first started my business, I would attend to a lot of small holiday boutiques, which you end up talking and selling directly to your clients. I never felt nervous. By working directly with clients, you know exactly what they like or don't like. A hint of what will sell better and get to know exactly what they are thinking, and most importantly, you LISTEN. Every designer should be their own best sells person.

Please tell us Anet, how do you prioritise work, social life, friends, and family?

That is a hard one. My family always comes first. Sometimes work very busy, and by looking at my children and noticing how fast they are growing, you want to pull the break and pause and enjoy life and your family. I am a lucky girl that I have a wonderful husband who helps me with Anet's Collection, with my children and has been significant support at the beginning of my business. Without the help and support of my husband and some sacrifice from my kids, none of these would have happened.

Anet, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.
As an artist, you see things in your way, and you have your vision. It is tough to be able to persuade someone to see things your way. I guess that is why you are the designer, and you have other people helping you with parts of your job that you are not the greatest. In my case creativity and design is the most natural part, bringing my imagination and vision to life ( to create the digital version of my work)is the harder part which I have my husband to thank for.

Anet, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Fashion Label.
I guess every little step and progress an artist makes, is a step toward significant accomplishment, every time I have a sell, every time I get an excellent review written on my website, every time I walk in to a place or event, and I see some people wearing my brand.....those are all moments I felt proud and inspired to create and design. Moreover, there is still a long way to go.

Anet, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or challenging about it?
The most exciting part for me is when I work on the design, and after deciding on what kind of finished product it should be, you wait for your sample. Once the sample is on point and can show your vision completely, then that is one of the best points. There are times that your sample does not come out the way you were expecting, and that is the difficult part of it.

What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Fashion Label?*

Keep learning and Network with the right people and stay inspired.
